About Lohri

Lohri is celebrated on the night before Makar Sankranti, mainly in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. A bonfire is lit, and people throw sesame, jaggery, popcorn and peanuts into it while singing and dancing the bhangra and gidda.

It marks the end of winter and the winter harvest of sugarcane and is especially celebrated for newborns and new brides.
