About Akshaya Tritiya
Akshaya Tritiya falls on Vaisakha Shukla Tritiya and is considered auspicious for the whole day, with no separate muhurat needed. Anything started or given on this day is believed to grow and not diminish (akshaya).
It is a traditional day for buying gold, starting ventures, griha pravesh and charity, and is linked to Parashurama's birth and to the Ganga's descent in different traditions.
How it is observed
- Lakshmi-Vishnu puja.
- Buying gold or silver, or starting new work.
- Donating water pots, grain, clothes and sweets.
- Pitru tarpan and charity in memory of ancestors.
