About Ganga Dussehra
Ganga Dussehra marks the day the river Ganga is believed to have descended to earth, on Jyeshtha Shukla Dashami. A dip in the Ganga on this day is said to cleanse ten kinds of sins, which is where the name (ten) comes from.
Thousands bathe at Haridwar, Varanasi, Prayagraj and Rishikesh and join the evening Ganga aarti.
How it is observed
- Holy dip in the Ganga or at home with Ganga jal in the bath water.
- Ganga puja and aarti.
