About Karwa Chauth
Karwa Chauth falls on the Chaturthi of the dark half after Sharad Purnima. Married women fast from sunrise without food or water and break the fast after seeing the moon, praying for their husband's long life.
The moonrise time differs a lot by city, so the exact fast-breaking time must be taken from your own city's moonrise.
How it is observed
- Sargi before sunrise from the mother-in-law.
- Karwa Chauth katha and puja in the evening.
- Offering arghya to the moon and seeing the husband through a sieve.
- Breaking the fast with water and food from the husband.
Dates follow the Hindu lunar calendar (tithi) as seen from Delhi and can differ by a day between regions and panchangs. Computed from NASA JPL DE421 Sun and Moon positions. Confirm with your local temple or priest for religious observances.
