About Kartik Purnima (Dev Diwali)

Kartik Purnima is the full moon of Kartik, called Dev Diwali in Varanasi, when the ghats are lit with lakhs of lamps. It is also the day Shiva is said to have destroyed Tripurasura (Tripuri Purnima) and Guru Nanak's birthday (Prakash Utsav).

A holy dip, lamp offering and charity on this day are considered especially meritorious.
