About Vivah Panchami
Vivah Panchami celebrates the marriage of Rama and Sita on Margashirsha Shukla Panchami. It is celebrated with great fervour in Ayodhya and Janakpur (Nepal).
Tradition says couples usually avoid holding their own weddings on this date, as Sita's later life was one of hardship.
How it is observed
- Rama-Sita puja and the Ramcharitmanas marriage episode.
- Re-enacted weddings at temples.
- Fasting and bhajans.
- Reading Sita Rama stotras.
Dates follow the Hindu lunar calendar (tithi) as seen from Delhi and can differ by a day between regions and panchangs. Computed from NASA JPL DE421 Sun and Moon positions. Confirm with your local temple or priest for religious observances.
