About Diwali (Lakshmi Puja)
Diwali (Deepavali) is the main day of the five-day festival, on the Amavasya of Ashwin (amanta). Lakshmi and Ganesha are worshipped in Pradosh Kaal after sunset, when the Amavasya prevails.
Homes are lit with diyas and rangoli, families share sweets and gifts and fireworks follow. For Jains it marks Mahavira's nirvana and for Sikhs it coincides with Bandi Chhor Divas.
